Baku-APATurkey and Bulgaria are preventing trucks from crossing their borders over a dispute on transit passes of trucks, APA reports quoting private Dogan news agency.

The disagreement has produced a line of trucks waiting at the border and forced Turkish transporters to seek alternative routes, according to the report.

The problem between the neighbors began when Bulgaria gave only 5,000 of the 125,000 transit pass permits Turkey had applied for at the start of the year.

Turkey closed its border to Bulgarian trucks on Friday as a warning, while Bulgaria responded by banning Turkish trucks from entering Bulgaria on Saturday.

Turkish Transport Minister Lutfi Elvan said on Monday his country would open the border gates only if Bulgaria sends all the expected permits, noting that there was no problem with exports thanks to alternative routes.

The goods loaded in the trucks would be transferred in order to avoid any damage, semi-official Anadolu Agency quoted Bulgarian Association of Road Transport Unions Chairman Iliyan Filipov as saying.

The two countries have had similar problems in October when Turkey closed its border to Bulgaria following a dispute over border permits.
