Baku – APA. On the night of June 3, protests against the government continued in various cities of Turkey including Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir, a number of people were injured and detained. APA reports that the clashes in Istanbul mainly took place in Besiktas district - around the Dolmabahce office of the Prime Minister and Akaretler Row. The police severely intervened in the protests, a lot of gas bombs were thrown and water cannons were used. The injured people and those who escaped from suffocating gas entered the Valide Sultan Mosque. Hotel workers gave free water to the people. Residents of the surrounding buildings delivered foods to the protesters. Volunteer doctors treated the injured people. The exact number of injured and detained people is unknown.
Protesters and the police also clashed in the capital Ankara. Thousands of people held protest in Kizilay square. The police and gendarmerie forces maintained the control on the roads to Cabinet of Ministers.
Protestors approaching the site were dispersed by gas grenades and water cannons. 3 people were hurt as a car hit the crowd. The driver was arrested. More than 100 demonstrators were reportedly detained in Ankara.
Serious incidents occurred in Izmir. Crowd gathered in GündoÄŸdu square, demanding the resignation of the government erected barricades against police attacks. Police used plastic bullets to disperse the protestors. 2 people injured in face and leg were hospitalized. The office of the ruling Justice and Development Party in Karshiyaka district of Izmir was set on fire by unknown persons. Police suspended gas supply to the building and deployed firefighters on the scene. The fire was extinguished.
Protests were also held in Adana, Bursa, Hatay and other cities of Turkey.
