Baku-APA. Police opened fire at a nude man who was allegedly trying to approach the officers on duty with a knife brandished in the air, at a landmark fountain near the municipal hall of Red House in downtown of Berlin on Friday, APA reports quoting Xinhua.
The man was then critically injured and later died from the wound, Berlin Police spokesman Stefan Redlich confirmed.
It was reported that passers-by earlier noticed the man was just in lunatic behavior, holding a long knife in his hand in front of the Neptune fountain opposite to the municipal hall, and police were called to the scene by security guard to forestall any danger to pedestrians nearby.
The man, at his age between 20- to 30-year-old and with the name unknown, was then bleeding in his body after having cutting himself with a 20-centimeter serrated knife and refused to be submissive to the police'call to put away the knife, according to police spokesman.
Police then opened fire at the man, when he ignored the warning to step back but tottered towards one of the police officers who had climbed into the fountain in an attempt to stop him, with knife in hand.
The man died from a gunshot wound in the lung, an autopsy report showed later
