Yilmaz said that 6205 soldiers of the Turkish Armed Forces were killed from 1984, when the Kurdistan Workers' Party (Kurdish: Partiya Karkerên Kurdistan) started terrorist acts till August of 2012.
As the Turkish government launched negotiations with the imprisoned PKK leader Abdulla Ocalan to solve the Kurdish problem, the terrorist organization declared ceasefire in March, 2013. PKK decided to withdraw its forces in Turkey to their bases in northern Iraq. Currently, the process is going on.
