Baku-APAGerman Economy and Energy Minister Sigmar Gabriel said Tuesday that Germany will advance the energy transition with success on the Handelsblatt Annual Conference in Berlin, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

As part of the conference "Energy 2014", Sigmar Gabriel speaks at the annual meeting under the subject "objectives, goals, tasks for the next legislative session in the field of energy policy."

The energy revolution remains the biggest challenge for Germany and is prerequisite for a successful economic, ecological and social development, said Gabriel.

He also said that what matters is that the transition is supported by the whole of society and that it is about economic solutions that need all to cope with.

The annual cost of subsidies for eco-electricity from 22 to 24 billion euros (30 to 32 billion U.S. dollars) reached the limit of what is bearable for Germany's economy, said Gabriel, adding that he knows no country that is able to face this cost.

He also pointed out that the energy transition does not come at zero cost. However, a further increase in costs should be avoided.

Gabriel referred to a higher energy efficiency as a central and essential part of the energy revolution, which means to focus on the most cost-effective technologies.

As German media Spiegel reported on Saturday, Gabriel is planning to cut down the support price in the promotion of green electricity from 17 cents per kilowatthour for wind turbines, solar and biogas to 12 cents in 2015.

Gabriel's reform plan will be decided at convention of the German parliament in Meseberg near Berlin on Wednesday.
