Clashes between protesters and police continue in Turkey

The group of protesters, erecting barricades on Avenue Ismet Pasha, has blocked traffic.

 

Protesters chant slogan "Everywhere Taksim, everywhere resistance."

 

The demonstrators burned tires, pelted police with stones and burning torches. In response, the police used tear gas and water cannons. The confrontation between police and protesters continued.

 

Recall that earlier on Thursday, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said the government does not intend to give up plans for the building of the Gezi Park that triggered mass protests.

 

Speaking in Tunis, Erdogan said that the organization of anti-government protests in Turkey involved extremists.

 

The Prime Minister was forced to interrupt his trip to the countries of North Africa and return to Turkey.
