Baku-APA. Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev in an address to the nation on Wednesday evening called for a referendum on the introduction of majority elections for the parliament, compulsory voting, and electronic voting, APA reports quoting Xinhua.
Plevneliev, who according to the Bulgarian Constitution can set the date for national referendums but only after the National Assembly has passed the resolution for holding a national referendum, said he would sent his proposal to the parliament.
Plevneliev said the referendum should be held in May, along with the European Parliament elections, and consisting of the following three questions: "Are you in favor part of MPs to be elected in a majority way"; "Are you in favor the introduction of compulsory voting at elections and national referendums"; and "Are you in favor the introduction of remote electronic voting in elections and referenda."
"Holding a referendum on these issues will help stabilize the institutions in Bulgaria and increase public trust,"Plevneliev said.
