Georgia has done everything possible to become a NATO member, said the Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, at a briefing, APA’s local bureau reports.
He noted that joining the Alliance is not only Georgia’s desire, but this issue is also enshrined in the country’s constitution.
Papuasvili added that “some actors clearly benefit from keeping both Georgia and Ukraine in a state of uncertainty. This does not reduce security risks—on the contrary, it increases them.”
The Speaker noted that 17 years have passed since NATO declared its doors open in 2008: “Georgia has done everything possible in terms of both constitutional and military rapprochement, fighting shoulder to shoulder with NATO troops. The ball is on NATO’s side.”
Note that NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte stated that any country in the Euro-Atlantic region that is eligible to become a member of the Alliance may express its desire, after which the accession process can begin.
