The cell phones of the prime minister and defense minister of Spain were hacked last year with the Pegasus spyware, Presidency Minister Félix Bolaños told a news conference on Monday, APA reports citing Teletrader.

"We do not doubt this is an illicit, unauthorized intervention," Bolaños stated. "It comes from outside state organisms, and it didn't have judicial authorization." Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez's cell phone was tapped twice in May 2021, and Defense Minister Margarita Robles' device was targeted the following month.

Bolaños also asserted that the breaches led to a significant amount of data and that reports detailing the violations have been transferred to Spain's Audiencia Nacional for further investigation.
