Russian ballistic missiles and drones attacked Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities, including Kharkiv, where four people were killed and 10 were injured overnight on March 7, authorities reported, APA reports, citing Kyiv Independent.
Explosions were first heard in Ukraine's capital at around 1:30 a.m. local time, according to local journalists on the ground. More blasts were reported at around 1:40 a.m. local time.
"Air defense forces are operating in the capital. Stay in shelters," Kyiv Mayor Vitalii Klitschko said.
A countrywide air raid alert was later issued at around 3:00 a.m. local time in response to the Russian attack.
Kharkiv was targeted overnight as well, with at least four killed and 10 injured. Fires were reported as a result of a ballistic missile strike, according to Kharkiv Oblast Governor Oleh Syniehubov.
Among the 10 people injured in the Russian attack, two were children, the State Emergency Service reported.
The four victims killed in the attack were found under rubble after a ballistic missile hit a multi-story residential building in the city's Kyivskyi district, causing heavy destruction and a fire, Mayor Ihor Terekhov said.
"A direct hit by a ballistic missile on a multi-story building in the Kyivskyi district has been confirmed. There is significant damage, a fire, and people may be trapped under the rubble," Terekhov first said.
