Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations of Hungary Peter Szijártó revealed his country's priorities during its presidency of the Council of the European Union, APA reports.

Szijártó said at the joint press briefing with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov that, the main issue that his country will put forward is the expansion of the European Union to the Balkan region.

“Hungary, which will chair the European Council, has three priorities. We want to eventually expand the European Union to the Balkan region. There are three countries that have been waiting for years to become members of this organization.

Another priority is the combat against illegal migration. Only the government can decide to let whom into the territory of Hungary. Neither Berlin nor Brussels can do that. This requires a thought out approach. Here, political and ideological issues should be separated from political issues,” – Szijártó noted.
