Aleko Eliashvili, one of the leaders of the Georgian opposition coalition "Strong Georgia", has been detained for attempting to set fire to the office building of the Tbilisi City Court, APA's local bureau reports, citing Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The investigation established that early today, Eliashvili broke the window of the front facade of the office building with a hammer, entered it and tried to set the building on fire by pouring gasoline on the surroundings, including stationery, equipment and documents.
The oppositionist was detained by officers of the Bailiffs' Service at the scene. Eliashvili resisted using the firearm he was carrying and applied physical pressure. Despite his resistance, the bailiffs arrested Eliashvili on the spot.
One of the Service officers who was injured during the clash was taken to the hospital. Eliashvili also suffered injuries due to resistance while being detained. The police confiscated the firearm used in the crime.
Investigative measures are being taken regarding the fact.
