A search was conducted at the Istanbul office of Halk TV in Türkiye as part of an investigation involving the channel's owner, Cafer Mahiroğlu, and detention orders were issued for 17 suspects, APA reports, citing NTV.
According to a statement by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, officers from the Financial Crimes Department conducted a search at Halk TV's Istanbul office in the morning.
During the operation, 11 of the 17 suspects were detained. It was determined that four suspects were abroad and one was being held in a correctional facility. Efforts are continuing to apprehend the remaining suspect.
It was reported that an investigation is underway against the channel's owner, Cafer Mahiroğlu, on charges of "bribery," "bid rigging," and "money laundering."
The Chief Public Prosecutor's Office announced that it had established that an unrecorded bribe payment of 14 million 464 thousand Turkish liras had been made in connection with tender processes, that payments exceeding the tender amounts had been made for certain projects, and that the proceeds had been transferred to Mahiroğlu or companies allegedly linked to him.
