NATO to commence deploying structures in Finland in coming months

The implementation NATO's decisions regarding the deployment of alliance forces and structures in Finland is expected to begin in the coming months, Russia's ambassador to Finland, Pavel Kuznetsov said, APA's Moscow correspondent reports.

According to him, a multinational tactical group of NATO's Joint Land Forces under Sweden's leadership is planned to be deployed in the north of Finland.

"The headquarters of the Alliance's land forces regional command will be established in the eastern city of Mikkeli. NATO leadership has made principal political decisions on this matter, and its practical implementation will, apparently, be started in the near months," Kuznetsov emphasized.

The ambassador added that if necessary, Finland is also working on plans to integrate its national logistics infrastructure into NATO-scale route schemes in order to accelerate the deployment of allied troops to Finland. The Finnish leadership is also working on plans to store NATO weapons and military equipment in its territory.

"Besides, there is currently no discussion about the permanent placing of large military contingents, the creation of foreign military bases, the deployment of heavy assault weapons, and so on in Finland," the Russian diplomat added.

Note that Finland became a NATO member on April 4, 2023.
