The new peace plan prepared by the US to end the war in Ukraine may not be implemented due to serious structural weaknesses, APA reports, citing The Telegraph.
According to the newspaper, the package of proposals prepared by the US administration includes provisions such as the withdrawal of the Ukrainian Armed Forces from the entire Donbas region and some territories occupied by the Russian side in the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions, a reduction in the size and combat capabilities of the Ukrainian army, and finally, the US providing defense guarantees to Ukraine.
According to the newspaper's analyst Daniel DePetris, the biggest problem with the plan is the reliability of the security guarantees that Washington can provide to Kyiv.
DePetris believes that the security guarantees that Washington will provide to Kyiv are the most necessary, but also the weakest part of the plan. The analyst writes that since the probability of the US fulfilling such a commitment is "extremely low", the guarantee may not be enough to alleviate Ukraine's concerns.
The main goal of the US guarantee mechanism is to soften Ukraine's objections to other tough points and prevent Russia from restarting the war in the near future. But analysts warn that the plan's incompatibility with political and military realities puts its implementation in doubt.
