Moscow depends heavily on Chinese support to maintain its arsenal of drones used in strikes against Ukraine, The Telegraph said in an article, APA reports.
The newspaper says that between 2023 and 2024, Chinese companies directly supplied at least £47 million worth of drone parts and materials to sanctioned Russian firms involved in drone production.
Nearly a quarter of this value – £10.7 million – went to companies linked to the production of Iranian-designed Shahed kamikaze drones, operating in a special economic zone in the Russian town of Alabuga.
According to the report, the goods exported from China included aircraft engines, microchips, metal alloys, camera lenses, fibreglass, emulsion binders, and carbon fibre yarns – all essential components for producing drones.
In total, The Telegraph identified 97 Chinese suppliers that delivered such materials to Russia during the period when Moscow was building large-scale infrastructure for its domestic drone programme.
