Milan prosecutors have requested proceedings against four Amazon managers for tax evasion by the company's European branch, APA reports citing ANSA.
According to ANSA, the case concerns non-compliance with changes to EU fiscal and customs regulations, which allowed the company to avoid paying €1.2 billion in VAT between 2019 and 2021.
The prosecutor's request followed an investigation by the Italian Guardia di Finanza. The company had previously reached a settlement with the Italian tax authority for €527 million.
The company stated that the prosecution was unfair and that it intends to defend itself against the unfounded accusations. The decision to initiate legal proceedings will be made by a pretrial judge.
