Germany's national railway company Deutsche Bahn (DB), has shut down train traffic along one of the country’s busiest railway lines Frankfurt-Manheim line, which is used by 75,000 passengers daily, for renovation work for 5 months, APA reports citing Deutsche Welle.
It was reported that within this time, overhaul will be carried out in all sectors of the line. Initially, the resumption of train movement on the line is scheduled for December 14 of this year.
Volker Wissing, Minister of Transport of Germany said that the process will be fast-tracked and completed on time to avoid delays in the reconstruction of the 140-kilometer line with 20 stations.
All in all, in recent years, Deutsche Bahn has been remembered more as a structure drowning in a maelstrom of problems than as a transport company on the national rail network. It has reached the point where a number of experts have voiced reasonable opinions that the system mentioned here is many times behind the similar network of developing countries.
As an example, tourists who came to Germany from different countries to watch the 2024 European Football Championship have repeatedly criticized the government and relevant structures, mainly the Deutsche Bahn company, for the non-operational nature of the country's railway network.
In numerous critical opinions posted on social networks, it was emphasized that such a bad and unprofessional work system does not suit Germany, which is one of the developed countries of Europe, and the importance of urgently eliminating the situation was underscored.
The Ministry of Transport and Volker Wissing, who has been in charge since December 2021, have been the target of criticism. Citizens who regularly use railway trains called the 54-year-old minister to resign immediately and said that the sector in question should be entrusted to a more professional specialist.
The occurrence of delays and serious problems in the railway system of a state that supplies most countries of the world with cars and various equipment cannot be surprising.
On the other hand, experts say that 5 months will not be enough to eliminate numerous serious problems on the Frankfurt-Manheim line, which will be shut down for maintenance, and that the interruption will cause significant financial damage to the work of this system.
