Georgia's ruling party to adopt FARA law's harsher version

Georgia's ruling Georgian Dream party will pursue a new draft law that will be a copy of the current version of the U.S. Foreign Agents Registration Act(FARA law), executive secretary of the ruling party, Mamuka Mdinaradze said, APA's Tbilisi correspondent reports.

"The new U.S. government has admitted that American financing has been used to support protests and revolutions in various countries, including Georgia. Last year, Parliament adopted a lighter version of FARA, which has not yet been fully implemented. However, as you know, although it comes into force, wealthy and large NGOs receiving funding from abroad have not been registered. Therefore, we will adopt the direct copy of the current version of the U.S. FARA law instead and ensure its full implementation," Mdinaradze stated.

According to him, the government will simultaneously create a fund to finance the initiatives of public organizations, and make amendments to the Law on "Grants" for this purpose.
