Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has linked the appointment of Interior Minister Vakhtang Gomelauri as Vice Prime Minister to “certain decisions," APA’s Tbilisi correspondent reports.
Gomelauri emphasized that this appointment had been discussed earlier, but some decisions expedited the process.
“The issue of appointing Vakhtang Gomelauri as Vice Prime Minister was actively discussed before, but certain decisions accelerated our choice. I wish Mr. Vakhtang Gomelauri success in his role as Vice Prime Minister of Georgia,” Kobakhidze stated.
Note that the United States and the United Kingdom have imposed sanctions on Interior Minister Vakhtang Gomelauri over police interventions in protests. The sanctions include asset freezes and travel bans.
