The number of people awaiting heart transplants is very high, Chairman of the Health Committee of Azerbaijan's Milli Majlis Ahliman Amiraslanov said at a conference held as part of "Heart Transplantation Week," APA reports.

He stated that Azerbaijan has made significant progress in the field of organ transplantation since gaining independence.

"An increase in healthcare spending is observed in the new state budget. Approximately 2 billion 100 million manats have been allocated for healthcare expenditures. When compulsory health insurance expenditures are also taken into account, this amount increases significantly," he said.

Amiraslanov noted that while healthcare expenditures amounted to approximately 800 million manats in previous years, the figure currently stands at around 4 billion manats.

The committee chairman stated that bringing the management of the healthcare system under the Ministry of Health would allow for more efficient use of funds in all areas, including organ transplantation, in the future.
