Polish Justice Minister Waldemar Żurek has commented on the incidents that occurred outside the Constitutional Tribunal building.

Speaking on TVN24, the minister said that the prosecutor's office and police had prevented the situation from escalating further.

"The prosecutor's office and the police passed the test in a sense because they prevented escalation. Those who effectively attacked the Constitutional Tribunal building were removed from the premises or left on their own. In this regard, it can be said that the situation has stabilized," Żurek stated.

The minister also noted that he found the judges' decisions convincing. According to him, legal means had to be used to enable the lawfully elected judges to assume their duties.

"I would very much like the general assembly to be held. This meeting should resolve budgetary issues and possibly issues of immunity," the minister added.

Note that tensions have arisen in Poland over Prime Minister Donald Tusk's appointment of Maciej Berek, a former minister in his government, as a judge of the Constitutional Tribunal. Following this decision, regular protests have been held outside the court building in recent weeks.
