In Georgia, civil servants will be prohibited from engaging in any paid activity outside their main place of employment, APA’s local bureau reports.

The relevant law will come into force tomorrow.

According to new requirements, civil servants will only be allowed to engage in scientific, pedagogical, or creative activities with the written consent of the relevant state body or authorized person.

Employees working under labor contracts in state institutions and public legal entities who wish to earn income from other paid work will also be required to obtain such written permission. This written consent will be valid for only one year.

If a person working in the public sector violates the law, they will be dismissed from their position and banned from public service for two years.

Commenting on the new law, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze stated that optimization of expenses and personnel will be implemented, which will make public service more efficient.

“It is theoretically impossible to work eight hours in two or three different institutions. This practice must be changed,” he said.
