Sometimes the interests of the United States and Russia overlap, former Austrian Chancellor Alfred Gusenbauer said during the panel discussion titled “Global Security and the Balance of Power: Respect for International Law, New Issues, New Challenges” at the 13th Global Baku Forum, APA reports.
“We cannot view the West as a whole as a space that stands guard over liberal democracy. Only the European Union remains in that role. Even within the EU, the fact that some countries serve the interests of external powers aligns with the interests of both Russia and the United States,” Gusenbauer said.
He added that in some cases, both the United States and Russia view the European Union as an adversary.
