“Georgia is working in good faith to ensure that it is not used as a platform to evade sanctions. Since 2022, there has not been a single case to accuse Georgia of this,” Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Bochorishvili told journalists, APA’s local bureau reports.
According to her, since 2022, a campaign has been conducted against Georgia, alleging that the country is being used to circumvent sanctions.
“However, it has been proven that this is not the case. International actors, opposition representatives, and several organizations have been involved in the campaign. The main goal is to damage Georgia’s image and undermine its interests. The campaign continues to this day and will probably go on,” the minister said.
Note that David O’Sullivan, the EU Special Envoy for Sanctions, sent a letter yesterday to Georgia’s Foreign Minister. He thanked Georgia for the steps already taken to ensure that the EU sanctions against Russia are not circumvented and for the high level of commitment expressed.
