The fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime is a salvation for the Syrian people, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said this in her speech at the European Parliament, APA reports.
"We have all seen the heartbreaking images coming from Assad's prisons, where many innocent people are being held, tortured and killed, and this was the true face of the regime. That is why many Syrians are rejoicing with the fall of this regime," Ursula von der Leyen underlined.
She also called some of the first steps taken by the new interim government in Syria hopeful.
