The European Union will allocate €100 million in humanitarian aid to Lebanon, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen announced, APA reports.
The EU leader noted that she had held a phone conversation with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and expressed Europe’s solidarity with Lebanon and its people.
“We are providing humanitarian aid worth €100 million. Yesterday we delivered more than 40 tons of supplies and plan to organize more humanitarian flights,” von der Leyen added.
The President of the European Commission also welcomed the Lebanese government’s decision to ban Hezbollah’s military activities.
“I welcome the government’s decision to ban Hezbollah’s military activities and its call to end all hostilities. We must ensure a sovereign and stable country for the Lebanese people,” she said.
