We do not want to harm or punish the Georgian people, our goal is to send a strong message to the Georgian authorities that their trajectory is unacceptable, said European Union (EU) Ambassador to Georgia Pawel Herczynski in response to a question about the possible suspension of visa-free travel for specific categories of passports, APA's Tbilisi correspondent reports.

According to him, the decision of the EU member states will be known next week.

"We have always made it clear that we do not want to harm or punish the Georgian people who take to the streets every evening and wave the flags of Georgia and the European Union.

I fully understand how difficult it is for them. Our intention is not to punish them. Our goal is to send a very strong message to the Georgian authorities that the trajectory they have chosen for many months, and especially in the last two weeks, by using brutal violence against peaceful demonstrators, is unacceptable. Let's wait until next week and see what decision the member states will collectively make," he underlined.
