Belgian authorities announced on Friday a new round of measures against COVID-19 as the number of infections continued rising, with a daily average of 16,761 over the last seven days, APA reports citing Teletrader.
Prime Minister Alexander De Croo stated the intensive care occupancy doubled in a week and warned of increased pressure on the healthcare system on the whole.
Nightclubs will be closed, while bars and restaurants can stay open until 11 pm. Gatherings in closed spaces are banned, apart from weddings and funerals. The government announced it will begin the vaccine booster rollout on Saturday, starting with the population over the age of 65 and healthcare staff and hoping to "inoculate the maximum number of people by Christmas." The new measures come into force on Saturday, while possible measures regarding schools have been postponed until Monday.
