At least eight students and a security guard are dead after a shooting at a school in Serbia's capital Belgrade, APA reports citing BBC.

Another six pupils and a teacher were injured in the attack and have been taken to hospital, the interior ministry said in a statement.

Police arrested a 14-year-old student at the Vladislav Ribnikar school in central Belgrade in connection with Wednesday morning's attack.

8 people died and at least five students were wounded after a schoolboy opened fire in a downtown Belgrade school on Wednesday, APA reports.

Serbian police said they received a call about the shooting in the Vladislav Ribnikar primary school.

The suspect, a seventh grade student (aged around 13), was arrested, police said.

The statement added that the boy apparently fired several shots from his father’s gun at other students and the school guard.

Casualties are being treated and an investigation into the motives behind shooting is underway, police said in a statement, without elaborating.
