Ankara – APA. “Turkey completely keeps to the terms of Montreux Convention on foreign ships’ passing through the straits in the Black sea,” chief of Turkish Armed Forces Headquarters, Army General Yasar Buyukanit said, APA reports. Buyukanit refuted the accusations that Turkey violated the terms of Montreux Convention by allowing the U.S. ships pass through the strait.
“Some have never read Montreux Convention, but write what comes into their head. The situation in the Black sea does not contradict Montreux Convention. But they say that Montreux Convention is ineffective. Montreux Convention is very important for Turkey. The Black sea is the stillest sea of the region, but some attempt to stir up a storm in this sea. They want to focus all the problems in the region on the Black Sea, from Nagorno Karabakh to Moldova, Armenia. That’s why Turkey should be tactful in terms of the Black Sea, one should not allow violation of stability in the Black Sea,” he said.
