APA quotes the Turkish news agencies as saying that 38 persons, including the municipality chief were arrested during the operations held by 400 gendarmes on Friday. The arrests were instructed by the Izmir Prosecutor’s Office, which accused Karagulmez in corruption, bribe, weapon smuggling, illegal tender actions and abuse its power. Files and other documents related to the municipal tenders were confiscated by the gendarmes. Searches were conducted in his house.
Turkish Gendarme Forces is a subject of the General Staff and is responsible for the public order. Meanwhile the Military Prosecutor’s Office sent official notice to Taraf newspaper campaigning against the army.
