Ukrainian defense minister: Debaltsevo not besieged

“There’s no siege. This has been made up by those who seek siege,” he said

The minister said the forces in Debaltsevo are being provided with reinforcement and ammunition on a regular basis, adding that a sabotage group of the enemy that had set an ambush on the Debaltsevo-Artyomovsk road was detected and neutralized.

“A fighter of the Kiev-2 battalion Igor Savchuk wrote on his Facebook page that separatists suffered heavy losses and were forced to retreat from the Debaltsevo-Artyomovsk road.

“Our group that opened the road crushed them well. At the same time, separatists have sent a portion of their forces to fill the gaps emerged in their defense in the south (Mariupol). The reinforcement sent by Russia to separatists was destroyed near the Sakhanka village,” the fighter wrote.

Note that, the Ukrainian National Guard on Tuesday launched an offensive on separatist positions near Mariupol city. As a result, 5 settlements were reclaimed and the front line was drawn away from Mariupol. This shock offensive was unexpected for separatists whose forces were deployed on the outskirts of Debaltsevo.
