Europe reduced dependence on Russian gas to 13% and aims to eliminate it completely, Energy Commissioner

"We want to continue our partnership with Azerbaijan and, if possible, expand it further", said Dan Jørgensen, European Commissioner for Energy and Housing, during a press conference dedicated to the results of the 11th meeting of the Ministers of the Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council and the 3rd meeting of the Ministers of the Green Energy Advisory Council held in Baku, APA reports.

"Currently in Europe, we want to completely eliminate our dependence on Russian gas. After Russia's unjust attack on Ukraine, we are trying to stop importing Russian gas. Previously, we used to get 45% of our gas from Russia, but we have reduced this figure to 13%. We intend to bring this figure to zero. This has only been possible, and will continue to be possible, with the help of our good friends – such as Azerbaijan. Representing the European Union, I would like to express my gratitude for the close cooperation in the gas sector. We believe that this cooperation brings mutual benefits," Dan Yorgensen added.
