EU-Azerbaijan Sub-Committee on Energy, Transport & Environment meets in Baku

Baku. Rashad Suleymanov – APA-Economics. As part of a Partnership and Cooperation Agreement between the EU and Azerbaijan, the 4th meeting of the EU-Azerbaijan Sub-Committee on Energy, Transport & Environment has started in Baku on April 1.

Azerbaijan’s Minister of Industry and Energy Natig Aliyev said cooperation between Azerbaijan and the EU is increasingly expanding and the parties’ interests coincide in the energy and transport sectors.

«Today, Azerbaijan is exploring corridors which play an important role in energy supply to Europe. In this regard, we have discussions with a number of states,” he added.

Natig Aliyev also noted that official Baku intends to share experiences with the EU, and jointly cooperate in the introduction of new technologies in Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijan is also interested in cooperation with the EU in the development of alternative energy sources, he added.

Alan Waddams, EU representative in Baku, spoke about plans to set up new sub-committees, as well as propose new projects in the energy and transport sector in order to strengthen relations between the EU and Azerbaijan.

From Azerbaijani side, representatives from the Ministry of Economic Development, Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Ecology & Natural Resources, Sate Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR), AzerEnerji (national electricity operator), AzeriQaz CJSC (national gas-supply operator), AzAL (Azerbaijan Airlines), Azersu (national water operator) and other agencies.

The meeting will focus on issues of energy, transport and environment protection in Eastern Partnership, the Situation on EU Energy Sector, including the 2nd Energy Strategy Report, Implementation of Memorandum of Understanding on Energy, and Energy Security and Infrastructure Development, and current affairs.
