U.S. Congressmen congratulate Ilham Aliyev on election as Azerbaijani President

The letter regards the re-election of President Ilham Aliyev as the next important step in the strengthening of civil society institutions in Azerbaijan.

The congressmen said that the United States and Azerbaijan has strong partnership basing on common strategic interests: “Our countries co-operate to prevent the spread of extremism and develop tolerance in the world. We highly support Azerbaijan’s important support to the peacekeeping operations of the U.S. in Afghanistan, Iraq and Kosovo. The United States and Azerbaijan share common valuesâ€‹â€‹ in many issues like diversity, tolerance, respect for minorities and gender equality. We confirm that these fundamental values that are the basis of any democratic system have deep roots in the Azerbaijani society. Mr. President, we wish success to You and friendly Azerbaijani people in your efforts to develop the country.”
