Turkish General Staff files criminal complaint on Balyoz and Ergenekon cases

The General Staff argued in its official complaint on Dec. 27 that evidence has been fabricated and manipulated. “The judicial police officers, prosecutors and judges in the trials, in which active and retired officers of the Turkish Armed Forces have been judged, have ignored the pleas of defense lawyers and manipulated criminal evidence,” the official complaint file said.

The development comes two days after opposition parties called for the retrial of the cases following the mentioning of a “plot” by Prime Minister Recep Tayyip ErdoÄŸan’s top political adviser YalçÄ±n AkdoÄŸan.

A lawyer of the Balyoz convicts, Haluk PekÅŸen had made a petition to the General Staff last week requesting the military to file a criminal complaint following AkdoÄŸan’s allegations on a “plot” against the army.
