Baku-APA. “After Heydar Aliyev’s dismissal from all the positions in 1987, Azerbaijan faced with very serious problems and disasters. Armenians raised an issue to get off Nagorno Karabakh form Azerbaijan and annex it to Armenia just 2 months later after his dismissal from the position,” said Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev at the ceremony on the 91st anniversary of Heydar Aliyev and the 10th anniversary of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, APA reports.

“Particularly, Heydar Aliyev’s absence in the political authority encouraged Armenians, because Heydar Aliyev factor did not allow them to put in such dirty claims. Later, the undeclared war started against Azerbaijan, bloody January tragedy was inflicted. In those tragic moments, Heydar Aliyev again raised his voice of justice again. Addressing at the permanent office of Azerbaijan in Moscow, he condemned Soviet authority’s acts, denounced the top person in Soviet Union. He declared this tragedy to the entire world. It was an act of huge courage, as there was 2 years till the collapse of Soviet Union. Nobody had an idea that Soviet Union could collapse,” said Ilham Aliyev

According to the President, Heydar Aliyev could not remain silent: "In those difficult moments he morally supported his people. After that, of course, the totalitarian machine, totalitarian state launched offensive acts against him. Preparations were made for his arrest. He was forced to come from Moscow to Baku. But here he was not given the opportunity to live. He went there, where he was born - to Nakhchivan. Thus, Nakhchivan period of his life began".

According to the President , when you analyze this period, one question always attracts the attention: If Heydar Aliyev was in Azerbaijan at the beginning of independence , during the collapse of the Soviet Union, if he was in the leadership of Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions would have never been occupied: "But history is history . Radical reforms were initiated, the foundations of statehood were created, the Constitution of independent Azerbaijan was adopted, the ideological foundations of our society were formed, ideology Azerbaijanism was adopted as the state ideology, a very serious reforms related to democratic development, human rights began. Azerbaijan became a member of international organizations; we started to give tangible answers to the ongoing propaganda campaign against Azerbaijan. We managed to break the information blockade. In those years, the main principles of our foreign policy, which we are committed today, have been formed. "

President Ilham Aliyev stressed that in the most difficult period for the country, Heydar Aliyev’s personal qualities, knowledge, courage, foresight and his love to the people said the final word: "Azerbaijan could undergo honorably out of this ordeal."
