Foreign Ministry's press service told APA that Ministry expressed its deep regret and regarded the statement as unacceptable.
The Ministry said that the presidential elections were conducted in a free, democratic, fair and transparent atmosphere basing on the Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan and electoral legislation in the presence of 52 000 local and 1 300 foreign observers and the Azerbaijani people expressed their will freely and consciously: “The results of the elections and the election process were assessed as free, democratic and fair by the observation missions of the European Parliament and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the Commonwealth of Independent States, GUAM Organization for Democracy and Economic Development, Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization, Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States and other international organizations, as well as the election observation missions of 100 countries. In general, as noted by the international and local observers, this election was one more important step forward in the process of Azerbaijan’s democratic development.
Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry considers that instead of appealing to the relevant bodies regarding some irregularities and technical errors, attempts made to attribute these cases to the whole election process, to claim that the presidential elections are not in line with the international standards and to cast shadow on the elections through political considerations can not be regarded as fair.
“Such an approach casts doubt on the sincerity of the US with respect to Azerbaijan, it is biased and inadmissible and is regarded as a disrespect for the Azerbaijani citizens, who have expressed their free will in the elections. We would like to reiterate that the majority of the international observers, including the European Parliament, PACE and OIC, as well as the results of the exit-polls conducted by five independent organizations from Azerbaijan, US and France confirm landslide victory of incumbent President Ilham Aliyev.”
