Baku. Shamil Alibeyli – APA. Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry has issued a statement on the presidential elections on October 9, the Ministry’s press service told APA. The statement says that 10 candidates participated in the elections, 5 492 polling stations functioned, 37 polling stations were established Azerbaijan’s diplomatic and consular missions abroad.
“Short-term and long-term observations were conducted by 53 000 observers. 1 300 international observers invited by the Azerbaijani government and Parliament from 100 states, the OSCE, PACE, European Parliament, GUAM, OIC, BSEC and various NGOs took part in the elections,” says the statement.
The statement says that the elections were conducted in accordance with legislation and high voter turnout was observed. 72.31% out of registered 5 145 000 voters participated in the elections. According to the initial results of the Central Election Commission, incumbent President Ilham Aliyev gained 84.55% of votes.
The assessments of various international organizations on the election were reflected at the end of the statement.
