Baku. Mubariz Aslanov – APA. Azerbaijan is making amendments to the Law on Counterterrorism. Parliament's Security and Defense Committee told APA that the relevant document was discussed at the committee.
Giving information about the document, Ziyafat Asgarov said that recent global processes and disorders have also impacts on Azerbaijan: “Members of aggressive religious sects are coming together in stable groups, campaigning, openly calling for terrorism in some schools, mosques and various organizations. Thus it is necessary to tighten some provisions in the document in accordance with the national interests of the country and state. It mainly covers international terrorism, financing of terrorism, organizing, planning and preparing terrorist attacks, creating panic among the people, using the media, internet, social networks for this purpose.”
Chairman of the Committee said that up to now, Azerbaijan has joined more than 15 international conventions, the Parliament adopted a number of important laws and decisions in this regard. He noted that the punishment of a person taking part in terrorist activities is important for ensuring the safety of his/her family and others suffering from it.
The draft law has been recommended to the plenary session of the Azerbaijani Parliament.
