Ali Hasanov: â€œIf being civil servants, we join politics, some trends, we are no more civil servantsâ€

Baku. Ramiz Mikayiloglu – APA. “Views expressed at the conference show that media chiefs are professional and they have clear understanding how to get out of the situation. I would like to emphasize the special role of the Caucasian Muslims Board in the maintenance of religious tolerance in Azerbaijan. I consider that Azerbaijani authorities and the Caucasus Muslims Board are most of all interested in maintenance and strengthening of religious tolerance in Azerbaijan and they are carrying out practical activities in this direction. The activity of Sheikh-ul-Islam Haji Allahshukur Pashazadeh is a good example for it. If the model of state-religion relations in Azerbaijan is successful, why should we change it?”

APA reports that Head of political and public affairs department at the Presidential Administration Ali Hasanov said this while delivering a closing speech at the conference "Freedom of religion, missionary work and media," organized by the Press Council.

Head of the Department said that the Caucasian Muslims Board is operating in accordance with the balance and model existing in Azerbaijan: “The Board is raising awareness, organizing discussions and courses. Religious model, history of Azerbaijan and the government's policy in this field are being promoted. Thus, Azerbaijan is supporting the activity of the Caucasian Muslims Board. We believe that the activity of the Board will produce more efficient results in the near future.”

Ali Hasanov said government agencies must be more active.
“The government agencies must be more sensitive to the signals from the society, not only hold debates with them. Government agencies must collect signals, determine positive and harmful tendencies, analyze, generalize them, come to a conclusion and take measures. When it comes to this, media, public organizations, active citizens and intellectual elite are the resources of the state. The state can pursue more successful policy with their help. Moreover, false media reports should be refuted. The task of the state is to prevent confusion of the society, prevent false claims from influencing the public opinion. I think, we will take into consideration the valuable speeches made at the event,” he said.

Ali Hasanov said some media outlets claim that there is confrontation at the Presidential Administration.
“This is not so. Some signals can be received from the society. Like all other structures, we must investigate them. Every civil servant must organize his activity in line with the Law on Civil Service and statute of the agency. Being civil servants at the Presidential Administration we are doing our best to fulfill the tasks set by Mr. President. If being civil servants, holding posts we join politics, some trends, we are no more civil servants. There can be forces attempting to stir up confrontation. Some signals may contain truth. Not all in Azerbaijan have similar way of thinking, approach. Therefore, civil servants, officials must fulfill their duties in line with the requirements of the law, be responsible,” he said.

Ali Hasanov underlined that the Press Council should continue such initiatives.
“Media outlets must not stir up confrontation, but must work to find and analyze the roots of the problems, if there are any, send proper signals to the society,” he said.
