Hasanov said that Azerbaijan has a multicultural society as a tolerant country: “Azerbaijani state has declared everyone equal before material and spiritual values and the law regardless of their national, ethnic origin and religious affiliations. Azerbaijani state is promoting respect for all national minorities living in the country, inspire good relations towards them. The national and religious tolerance is one of the main distinguishing features of Azerbaijan. Heydar Aliyev has repeatedly stated that national and religious minorities, including Russians living in Azerbaijan are an important part of our national and cultural diversity. Today, according to the state policy, every citizen feels himself equal before the state and law regardless of their religious and national identity.

He said the Azerbaijanis living in post-Soviet countries aren’t facing such an attitude: “National and civil rights of the Azerbaijanis are sometimes flagrantly violated, government agencies inspire and promote unfair treatment against them. Azerbaijani state and society differ from other countries and societies in this sense.”
