Ramiz Mikayiloglu – APA. “Azerbaijan is a tolerant country, where there is atmosphere for various religious sects to be friends,” head of political and public affairs department at the Presidential Administration Ali Hasanov said addressing the conference on the theme “Freedom of religion, activity of missionaries and media”, APA reports.
Department chief said the state helps mosques, synagogues and churches, assist in their construction without discriminating among them.
“The state is not obliged to construct places of worship, or allocate funds for religious communities. Then who are the missionaries intruding into Azerbaijan, attempting to upset this tolerance? Attempting to create a network, missionaries want to adapt the state policy to their interests. There are legal and illegal actions. The state has prevented and will prevent attempts to make people adopt the interests of religious missionaries, separate groups. The situation in the field in Azerbaijan is not unbearable, complicated, the state is controlling the activity of the religious communities without interfering. It does not interfere unless there is a threat to the state. If these communities want to violate the rights of other communities, citizens, they will have to face the state. The state has not been insured against these threats, but is able to prevent such threats. The role of media in this issue is equal to a state. Media and civil society institutions are contacting these people, communities, see which of them are dangerous. We are sure that media, journalist organizations will always support us in this issue. The legislative, executive and judicial authorities are resolute to continue the current atmosphere of tolerance. But the representatives of those trends should know that the attempts to adapt the state policy to their interests will fail,” he said.
