Azerbaijani Parliament passes decision to hold referendum on draft law envisaging annexes and amendments to the Constitution

MP underlined that this was against strategic interest of the state.
MP Siyavush Novruzov stated that critical opinions sounded on Article 101 concerned annexes and amendments to the Constitution were political demagogy. Though MPs wanted to address on the issue, The Speaker put the draft law to the vote whether referendum on draft law would be held or not. 100 MPs voted for the draft law, 7 voted against the bill, one was neutral. The referendum will be conducted on draft law.
The referendum will be held on March 18, 2009.
