Azerbaijanâ€™s President Ilham Aliyev participates in opening of Heydar Aliyev Avenue

Baku â€“ APA. The highway of Heydar Aliyev International Airport â€“ Azizbayov circle was opened on December 25. President Ilham Aliyev also participated in the opening ceremony, The Presidentâ€™s Press Service told APA. The Head of State was told that the reconstruction of the highway began in March, 2007. Three overpasses have been constructed here. The bridge regulates the traffic towards Ramana and Surakhani settlements.

The width of the lanes on the highway constructed by Azvirt LLC is 3.75m. The highway is 12-lane from Azizbayov circle to Sabunchu circle and 8-lane from Sabunchu circle to Heydar Aliyev International Airport. Asphalt covering is 27cm thick. Six pedestrian crossings have been constructed. Electronic boards have been installed in 8 places to regulate the speed of vehicles. Drainage system has been installed, so, the ponds seen along the road have been dried out. Polymer asphalt-concrete has been used for the first time in the region.

President Ilham Aliyev participated in the opening of overhauled Heydar Aliyev Avenue. The width of the highway along with the side roads was 32m before. Now the width of the avenue is 45m, in some places 55m. 1500m-long supporting walls have been built. The highway is 10-lane.

The Head of State also attended an opening ceremony of tunnel and pedestrian subway in Heydar Aliyev Avenue. Minister of Transport Ziya Mammadov provided information to the President that reconstruction carried out in this part of the Avenue would ensure security of the railway bridge. Moreover, railway does not impede routes.The tunnel has one side and two stripes. Width of road is 7 meters and residents of surrounding settlements will use it. Another tunnel will be brought online in March, 2009.
Length of pedestrian subway is 67 meters and it was modernized within four months. Glass cover was installed on the exit of pedestrian subway.
The construction is under way in crossing of Aliyev Avenue and Nematulla Street. The tunnel will be opened in first term of next year. The height of tunnel is 5 meters, width 10 meters, length 287 meters and width of traffic strip 8.5 meters.
