New power station put into operation in Baku

Baku–APA. Newly-constructed Sangachal Power Station in Garadagh District of Baku was put into operation on December 24. President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev attended the ceremony. Press Service of the President told APA the head of state was informed that construction of the 300-megawatt power station started in February, 2007. The construction work was provided by the companies “Wartsila” (Finland), ABB (Switzerland), “Monolith” (UAE), “Azenko”, “Interenergy” and “Globe” (Azerbajan).

The station will play important role in the strengthening of energy security of Baku and Absheron Peninsula, using gas and fuel oil in the main processes and diesel fuel in the unsteady processes. Eighteen 17-megawatt aggregates were installed in the station and produced electric energy is transmitted to the energy system via six 63-megawatt transformers and six 110-kV electric transmitters.

The station was provided with 4-km pipeline to supply it with natural gas and it will get a gas-distributor station soon. There are fuel tanks, installations for chemical cleaning of oil and diesel fuels, as well as water and firefighting systems. 3-km railway and three-storey administrative and supportive buildings were constructed in the station’s territory.

Coefficient of efficiency of the station is 46.4 percent. It needs to use 263 g equivalent fuel to produce one kW of electric energy per hour. Nearly 600 workers were involved in the construction work. 200 people will be provided with the permanent jobs in the station.

President Aliyev took walk in the station’s territory and looked at the equipments, installations, administrative and supportive buildings. He pushed the button in the managing center and put the station into operation.
