Draft which also includes elimination of article limiting presidential term from Constitution recommended to Azerbaijani Parliament

Member of the Working Group preparing the draft, chairman of the Standing Commission on Legal Policy and Statehood Ali Huseynov said the group members had discussed the proposals put forward at the sittings. Huseynov said the majority of the proposals were of editing character and added that most of them had been taken into consideration. The chairman of the commission noted that taking into account the parliamentariansâ€™ proposals, the point on legislative initiative of 50,000 citizens had been amended, the number reduced by 40,000.

Following this, it was recommended to discuss the draft in the parliament for submitting to the Constitutional Court. Director of legislative department of the parliamentâ€™s office Latif Huseynov said the parliament will fix the date of the referendum after the Constitutional Court give judgment.

It was also noted that the draft would be discussed in the parliamentâ€™s sitting the following day.

Exclusion of the article restricting the election of one person as president more than twice from the Constitution is among the proposed constitutional amendments.
