4th Youth Employment Summit takes place in Baku - <font color=red>UPDATED  </font>

President of Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Member of the Parliament Mehriban Aliyeva, First lady of Egypt Susan Mubarak and government officials of Azerbaijan are attending the summit initiated by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Ministry of Youth and Sport and YES Inc. organization. Welcoming the participants Minister of Youth and Sport Azad Rahimov said the first summit was held in Alexandria, Egypt in 2002 under the chairmanship of former US President Bill Clinton and First Lady of Egypt Susan Mubarak. It was decided at the third summit in Nairobi, Kenya in 2006 to hold next summit in Baku. Rahimov said nearly 600 delegates from 70 countries were attending the event.
Then Head of the Department of Humanitarian affairs of the President’s Office Fatma Abdullahzadeh read the President Ilham Aliyev’s letter to the summit. It was noted in the letter that a large number of summit participants from the different countries was an indicator of the interest to the summit. Further President of Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Member of the Parliament Mehriban Aliyeva addressed the summit. Mrs. Aliyeva said there were great progresses in the economy of Azerbaijan recent years and regional projects initiated by Azerbaijan created big opportunities for the country’s development. Mehriban Aliyeva said youth employment issues would be discussed within the summit. She said great work had been carried out in the fields of social protection and poverty reduction. “Today social protection of the population in Azerbaijan is focused by the Government. As a result of works implemented in this field poverty was reduced from 49% to 17% in 2007”.
First Lady of Egypt Susan Mubarak said YES was the main platform to reach targets. She noted that reduction of poverty should be the main strategy for all nations and the young people should be stimulated for elimination of education problems and they should be assisted materially.
UNESCO Good Will Ambassador Marianna Vardinnoyanis noted that the event had a great role in the determination of youth employment strategy in the world countries. The Good Will Ambassador said Azerbaijan has already gained experience in the employment sphere and it was important to share this experience with other developing countries.
President of YES Inc. Organization Punam Ahluvalia said different reports would be heard within the framework of the summit. Popularization of world ownership activity, establishing of youth employment centers, profitability of young generation in the rural places, management of human resources, work with the young people left the school, influential opportunities of the youth programs and future prospects will be discussed during the sessions until September 27.

The summit will finish on September 27. The Declaration of Ministers will be adopted at the end of the summit. The next summit will be held in Sweden in 2010.
