The Baku Process was launched in 2008 at the initiative of President Ilham Aliyev, Deputy Minister of Culture Farid Jafarov said at a press conference dedicated to the 7th World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue, which will be held in Baku on October 27–29, APA reports.

He stated that the initiative aimed to bring together the culture ministers of Eastern and European countries and hold discussions on cultural issues:

"The Baku Process was established on the basis of this initiative. Later, in 2010, during his speech at the UN General Assembly, the President of Azerbaijan announced that Azerbaijan would host the Forum on Intercultural Dialogue."

The Deputy Minister noted that since 2011, Azerbaijan has consecutively hosted six forums. According to him, over the years, the forum has expanded both in terms of the number and scale of participants and the scope of the audience involved.

"We are increasingly involving more people, governments and national organizations, as well as non-governmental organizations, media representatives, young people, young leaders and religious leaders in the process," Farid Jafarov emphasized.

He stated that the theme of this year's 7th World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue is "Building Bridges in a Divided World."

"This theme was determined taking into account ongoing inequalities and conflicts between countries, as well as among different segments of our society. The forum aims to bring together representatives of society at various levels, governments and international organizations to discuss issues that can bring the world's population closer together," the Deputy Minister said.

Farid Jafarov also provided information about the events held within the framework of the forum. He noted that the official opening of the forum will take place on October 27. Following the opening ceremony, a joint session of international ministers and government representatives will be held.

According to the Deputy Minister, a number of events have already been held within the framework of the forum. An International Youth Forum camp was held in Guba, jointly organized by the Ministry of Culture of Azerbaijan, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations.

"More than 100 young leaders from 44 countries around the world participated in the International Youth Forum camp held in Guba from October 26," Jafarov said.

He added that a conference was also held this morning with the participation of business representatives from various countries and regions of the world.

Farid Jafarov stated that one of the new directions of this year's forum is the broader involvement of academic and research communities in the process. According to him, special attention is also being paid to the participation of young leaders and women in the dialogue process.

The Deputy Minister noted that media representatives from various countries around the world are also participating in the forum:

"Today, media representatives from 19 countries are with us. They will cover the proceedings of this event."

He emphasized that the forum is being held in close cooperation with international partners, including the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations.
